Little Moments

Big, wonderful moments are fun but it's the little moments that sustain us.
I love these little moments.

Art work by Papa and Moo

I love my Dad's little art doodles

Moo's Masterpiece.
You know I love you when I let an empty Coke can hang from the armoire  for a week.

Papa reading to Moo.

This is a note Little C's little brother's designed for him "from" Stephen Curry - it says,
"I know you are my biggest fan. But I love you so much. From: Curry"

Buckabu reading to Lou, Ruckus, and Moo

Talking Little C into getting a pedicure with me.
He liked it - but don't tell him you saw me post this.

I like him. :)

The Beloved dying his beard.
And our little girl dying hers.

Posing at Red Robin

Eating lunch with my big brown eyed entourage

Enjoying the cool bike rack outside the library

Noticing your kid arrived to church with mismatched socks
Then discovering your daughter next to him drew all over her tights.
Ruckus becoming the phone photographer
Yours truly in my favorite uniform

Lou

Moo

Moo is his best study

Wearing a beanie accompanied with her older brother's shoes.

Sleeping with your mouth open - there's no better sleep than that.

Posing like you were made for it.

That little baby bummy poking up while napping with Daddy.
It's my favorite.

I watched these two from my car checking out the Redbox selection and I felt so blessed. What cuties. What pals!
I love those boys.

Knowing vs Doing

I find myself having this conversation with my teenager lately:

Me : Little C, please empty the wastebaskets.

L.C. :Okay, Mom.

5 minutes later

Me : Um, the wastebaskets need to be emptied. Please get on it.

L.C. : Yes, I know. I'll do it.

15 minutes later

Me : Honey, you still haven't emptied the wastebaskets.

L.C. : Okay, okay, I'll do it.

....more time passes...

Me: Empty the wastebaskets.

L.C. : Mom, I know. I will. Okay?

And then the speech begins.

Me: I know, you know. And you say you will. But I see NO Doing. It does very little good to KNOW you should accomplish something without actually trying to DO something about it.

L.C. : I know.

....minutes pass

Me: Your phone is confiscated until I see more progress in the emptying of the wastebaskets department.

And Little C completes the chore moments later.

He had to be chastened. That's so lame to my mom brain. Discipline is exhausting (and I'm tired yo) but necessary.

I want him to REMEMBER this moment and the consequence of  him "not DOING" and next time DO a little better.

And I know one day he'll get there, maybe when he's 27... but I know he'll arrive. So I keep trying.

I can't help but wonder if this is how our Father in Heaven feels about us.

Except the task is much greater. Even though we KNOW right from wrong and have learned about Him and His ways from birth, one of our greatest flaws as humans beings is that sometimes we forget about Him all together.

In Helaman 12: 3 it reads, "And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people..... they will not remember Him."

I read this verse during my religion class on Thursday and I felt my heart fall. How sad would I be if my children forgot about me? Forgot all the hugs, laughs, dances in the kitchen, stories being read. What if they forgot about how much I loved them and what I had striven so hard e.v.e.r.y.d.a.y. to teach their little selves about the gospel of Jesus Christ?

In Helaman chapter 11 in the "seventy and sixth year", after the Lord had heavily chastened the people by famine due to their wickedness, they finally remember Him. In verse 17 he lifts His anger due to Nephi's pleadings and the repentant hearts of the people and they begin to flourish in the land. In verse 18 it says they did "rejoice and glorify God".
 - In the seventy and seventh year they  had peace.
 - Seventy and eighth year there were minor contentions over doctrine.
-Seventy and ninth year "there began to be much strife"
 - Eightieth year the Gadianton robbers begin to surface again.
 - Eighty first year the robbers create great fear among the people and they remembered their God.
 - Eighty and second year, "they began again to forget the Lord their God."
 - Eighty and third year, "they began to wax strong in iniquity."
 - Eighty and fourth year, "they did not mend their ways."
 - Eight and fifth year, "they did wax stronger and stronger in their pride, and in their wickedness; and thus they were ripening again for destruction."

A brief nine years had passed and they were back exactly to where they were before. People fall so quickly.
But why?
They had KNOWN.
They had KNOWN God and glorified in Him.
But they didn't Do.

In a very stark contrast the brothers, Nephi and Lehi, continued to prosper in the gospel at this time because they, "sought His will... and sought to keep His commandments." They were like me speaking to Little C -Come on guys, get busy. Please remember the Lord and do His will. And maybe the people responded, "we know, we know. We'll do it, okay?" Until one day they'd put if off for so long that they convinced themselves that what they had once known wasn't true anymore and forgot the Lord altogether.

Which makes me wonder what do I KNOW, but am not necessarily DOING? Because I never want to forget what I Know now. I want to always be found DOING.

The Blessing of Clarity

I was asked to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting this past Sunday and the assigned topic was  - The Blessings of Temple Attendance. I wanted to share it on my blog to remind myself and my posterity to get our buns to the temple. I felt Heavenly Father's direction and hand in my life like no other time before while preparing a talk.
I am reliant on Him.
I am thankful for Him.

I received my temple recommend two weeks before my husband and I were to wed. When I walked into the stake president’s office he said, “I’ve heard you’ve worked hard to get here.”  My insides shouted, “Yes! Yes I have!”
My whole life had been centered on that very moment and I felt extremely blessed and excited to walk out those meeting house doors with my recommend in hand.
I knew what I was doing was right. I was so nervous I would lose this precious piece of paper, validating my worthiness, that I reminded myself of Molly in the Unsinkable Molly Brown after they received their first cash in from their ore mine. She wanted to hide her fortune of money in the least suspecting place if a thief came calling and determined the wood stove was just that place. Her husband came in from the cold a few minutes later and decided to warm himself by starting a fire…. And you can imagine the rest.  I did not want my temple recommend starting on fire. After going through various hiding spots I deemed my wallet the proper location. J
Receiving my temple recommend was grand but it would be “one upped” just a couple weeks later when I attended the temple. After participating in the temple endowment session and being welcomed into the Celestial room by family, friends, and my awesome hot fiancĂ© I felt a variety of blessings– peace, joy, enlightenment, strength, love…
Just two days ago my son Dash was trying to explain something so precisely to me and he said, “there are so many words to choose from it’s hard to know which ones to use”.
That’s how I feel about labeling the blessings of temple attendance. How do I know which words to choose when they’re all so magnificent?
The Spirit, who is ever on our side, gave me a little help this week in the identification of one single word.
Clarity.
The temple blesses us with clarity –it makes things clear:
President Packer referred to it as the place where the dust of distraction settles.
My mother told me that only two days ago the temple was overflowing with youth who performed over 500 ordinances by 8 a.m. The deceased they served and sacrificed their sleep for will not be the only ones who are blessed. These youth will be blessed with clarity.
One of my YW from our old ward told me that her weekly temple attendance to do Baptism’s for the Dead helps her to resist temptation.
Elder Oaks said, “Remember your covenants and be faithful in temple attendance.” He went on to say that a wise Bishop once told him that, “A priesthood bearers’ fall into pornography never occurs during regular worship in the temple. It happens when he has become causal in his temple worship.”
#1 The temple provides the clarity we need to resist temptation. And not just one or two temptations but President Monson says, “EVERY Temptation” EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. President Packer said, “Our labors in the temple cover us with a shield and a protection, both individually and as a people.”
#2 The Clarity to feel Peace. I have a friend who loved the single life. She was comfortable in her current season and wasn’t in a hurry to give her hand to anyone. She was eventually called to serve in the temple once a week and also made sure to attend a session of her own as well. Down the road she found the man for her and agreed to be his eternal companion. She attributes this decision to the time she spent in the temple. It allowed her the clarity to feel at peace with the prospective union. A few years later she was offered that sweet peace again when she felt her marriage was in ruin. She found herself in the Celestial room begging God, with tears streaming down her cheeks, to save her marriage. In that same room she saw a woman, who too, was crying. She felt a nudge from the Lord saying to her, “Go hug her. Be my arm and I’ll give you everything you desire.” She went over and gave this woman a great big hug, felt immense peace, wondered if she’d be referred to as the weird woman who gives random hugs in the Celestial room and now,  many years later, her marriage has exceeded the strength of her initial desires. The Son of God promised us, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be trouble, neither let it be afraid.”
#3 The temple gives us the clarity to love. Different kinds of love - There is no doubting the immeasurable amount of love I feel for my spouse when attending the temple together. This love and adoration follows us out of the temple and fortifies our marriage throughout the weeks to follow. I am thankful for him every day. But I’ve witnessed another kind of love -the Love our Heavenly Father and Savior has for each and everyone one of us. Referring back to the story I shared previously about my friend who was struggling with marital issues – I went to the temple around this same time although I was praying for a very different thing -I was hoping she’d have the strength to leave her spouse. In my eyes he was the epitome of everything vile and I prayed for the Lord to bless her with the strength to leave. I then felt the resounding impression that she can’t leave because she is his blessing.  The Lord loved her husband. The Lord was blessing him with a wife who loved him unceasingly and would help him in his journey home. Attending the temple gave me the clarity to begin to love someone I really didn’t want to and also the clarity to forgive.
#4 Temple attendance gives you the clarity needed when setting priorities.  I have a friend who is the busy mother of nine children and is also a small business owner. She’s the kind of gal you see and think, “How does she do it all?” Her secret is that she and her husband have made it a goal throughout their marriage to attend the temple once a week. She refers to this as her marriage/family insurance. And although her time is precious, temple attendance helps her in setting her priorities which are, to name a few, exhibit patience, love and understanding to her family and she has also set the priority to find others to serve and follow through. Her regular temple attendance gives her the clarity to center her priorities on things of an eternal nature instead of a worldly one.
#5 The Clarity that you’re needed and have purpose – My parent’s serve in the Boise temple and witnessed an elderly lady named Sister Harris, serving on a regular basis. She attended the temple every single day it was open and didn’t only do one session, but two – she even followed through on her 100th birthday. My parent’s told me “it was a blessing to witness and also a blessing to Sister Harris to know that she could continue to make a contribution, even in the most advanced stage of life.” President Monson said, “the temple provides purpose to our lives.”
#6 The Clarity to endure. – President Ballard shared the following message, “When Nauvoo fell in September of 1846 there were unbearable conditions for the Saints in the poor camps. When word reached Winter Quarters, Brigham Young immediately called the brethren together. After explaining the situation and reminding them of the covenant made in the Nauvoo Temple that no one who wanted to come, no matter how poor, would be left behind, he gave them this remarkable challenge: “Now is the time for labor,” he said. “Let the fire of the covenant which you made in the House of the Lord, burn in your hearts, like flame unquenchable” Within a few days, in spite of near-destitute conditions at Winter Quarters, many wagons were rolling eastward to rescue the Saints in the poor camps along the Mississippi River.
We often hear of the suffering and the sacrifice those early Saints endured, and we ask ourselves, how did they do it? What was it that gave them such strength? Part of the answer lies in President Young’s powerful words. Those early Latter-day Saints had made covenants with God, and those covenants burned like unquenchable fire in their hearts.”

#7 The clarity received from temple attendance provides direction.  – One of my sisters received a distinct NO! in the temple when inquiring whether a marriage proposal was right for her.
Luckily, my husband felt the overwhelming push of a YES! when seeking if I was the one for him.
I have another sister who was VERY DONE having children after a scary experience with baby #4 and then after a trip to the temple she and her spouse knew baby #5 really wanted to come to their home.
“A bishop wanted to decide who he should choose for his counselors. He could not decide on one of them. He testified that by fasting, meditation, and prayer in the temple, he was enlightened and assured that his choice would be right. He moved ahead and his choice proved to be correct.” (Harold Glen Clark)
#8 One of the greatest blessings of temple attendance is the clarity to help us view things from an eternal prospective. Elder Faust said, “This life makes no logical sense unless we think in terms of the eternities. The transcendent blessings of life and eternity are received within the sacred walls of the temple.” The church has started a pilot program where young people, who have received their call but are waiting to depart on their missions, have taken the opportunity to become temple ordinance workers. There is one young man my parents told me about who was leaving in two weeks but wanted to take advantage of the temple experience so he worked two shifts per day/four days per week. They shared with me that, “that’s four months’ worth of work in two weeks.” What a blessing of clarity this will give these soon to depart missionaries of the “big picture”. They’ll be able to serve their missions not only seeking to remind the Lord’s sheep of the truthfulness of the gospel and have them get baptized, but also to push them to keep on striving to be worthy to enter His Holy House. On LDS.org it says, “Everything in the Church—the meetings and activities, the missionary efforts, the lessons taught and the hymns—all lead to the work done in holy temples.”
I worked hard, and am still working every day to maintain my worthiness to hold a temple recommend –which is good. But what is even better is if I use it and receive all of the blessing awaiting me. President Hunter shared a story one time where he said, At the close of a fast and testimony meeting, the bishop remarked, ‘We have had a spiritual experience today listening to the testimonies borne by each other. This is because we have come fasting according to the law of the Lord. But let us never forget that the law consists of two parts: that we fast by abstaining from food and drink and that we contribute what we have thereby saved to the bishop’s storehouse for the benefit of those who are less fortunate.’ Then he added: ‘I hope no one of us will leave today with only half a blessing.”
Let’s go to the temple and claim our blessings – all of them – not just half.

Go and be blessed with clarity.

Being Sincere

When I was in the ninth grade I remember finding out that the boy my friend was desperately in love with liked me. I hated this awkward information and wanted it to go away. I knew it would devastate her and had no clue how to share the news - so I didn't. My hope was that he would come to recognize the mutual feelings he carried for her and I continued to encourage her to pursue him. My 33 year old self sees how ludicrous this plan was but my 14 year old self was surprised when it backfired. My friend confronted me one day saying, "Why did you to tell me to like "Jon" when you knew he liked you?" And then she walked away.
I am a people pleaser. I instinctively want everyone to feel wonderful and to see the beauty that I see,  but it is also important not to forget one single word - sincerity. I want to be real. This doesn't mean shoving out brutal remarks that hurt people, it means taking the time to SINCERELY listen, think, pray, reflect, ponder and voice the inner thoughts of Cammy. A wonderful exemplar of someone with sincerity is Alma the Younger.

In Alma 30 we read about Korihor, the antichrist. Alma confronts him and asks in verse 37, ".... believest thou that there is a God? 38 And he answered Nay. 39 Now Alma said unto him: will ye deny again that there is a God, and also deny the Christ? For behold, I say unto you, I know there is a God, and also that Christ shall come." Alma bore his testimony straight into Korihor's face. He wasn't afraid of this antichrist who had gleefully lead many men and women into transgression. Alma was a defender of truth and sincere in living and standing up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ
.
I love the prayer he offers in the following chapter, chapter 31. It is the perfect example of how one should pray; consisting of three things Sister Mindy Davis pointed out in a video I viewed recently, "1. He speaks of his feelings 2. He outlines his view of the problems 3. He makes requests to deal with the problems". Alma knows his father and has a conversation with Him. He prays sincerely.

In verse 32 he says, "O Lord, wilt thou comfort my soul, and give unto me success, and also my fellow laborers who are with me- yea, Ammon, and Aaron, and Omner, and also, Amulek and Zeezrom, and also my two sons - yea, even all these wilt thou comfort O Lord. Yea, wilt thou comfort their souls in Christ." Amidst all of his own personal trials Alma remembers to request the help from the Lord for those he loves deeply. He is a sincere friend.

Those words from my old friend still echo in my mind once in awhile, "Why did you tell me to like "Jon" when you knew he liked you?" They push me to be a little better in defending and living the gospel, having wonderful conversations through prayer, and being a better, truer friend like Alma. My goal is to be like Christ and there is no one more sincere than He.

Family Pictures 2016

These two couldn't stop posing for the camera -

Dear Kiddos: Daddy/ Papi Loves You Too!

I just wanted you to know that Daddy/ Papi loves you too! Your mom has written several messages to you over the years, but I thought it would be important for you to hear from me too. I know you have all heard every threat from me like eating you for dinner, to you're sleeping in the dog house (all still could come to pass if you are naughty) but I do love each of you. Each of you have been a blessing in my life. You add stress, require sacrifice, and demand everything at that instant (and it will probably increase over time) but all of that is worth it to have you in my home. I hope and pray that I can be a good father by teaching and directing you, so that one day you can have the experience of being a father in a loving home like we have.

Now, I might be able to beat Papi in a game of basketball, says Little C. Dear Little C, it never will happen!

Ohh Fire!!! - Little C

Little C - I remember when you were little laying on you and pretending you were my pillow. You would get a kick out of waking me up by a moving pillow. I remember asking you "What does mom say?" and teaching you to reply "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." I remember you scaring mom with "Magnus Merrah." She is still scared of that today. I love beating you in a basketball game both on the court and Xbox (you have always been my Xbox buddy). You have such influence and power over your younger siblings so remember that and try always to be good. Even when you are gruff with your siblings (which I think you honestly pick up from me) you are a softy at heart for them. It was totally cool that you shared your birthday limo with your brothers - awesome brother! I also loved how when SweetRotten destroyed your basketball cards you couldn't even get mad at her. TOTAL SOFTY!

Good Morning Daddy - Lou
Lou - I remember how that name came to be. I remember when traveling, coming home to your 2 year old face just beaming to see me, and devastated when I had to leave. I remember your testimony during FHE that would not end, but so very sweet. I love how when trying to explain something new to you we always get a response that starts with, "Oh so you mean..." You are super competitive which can be a good thing but holds you back other times. Use that spirit to only do better. And I know you are FAST like your Daddy! You are also a night owl like Daddy too, probably the only one in the family that can stay up without issue like me. You were and are a Daddy's boy when I need it (even though now you are totally a Mama's boy). When you were young it was all Daddy.

Football buddy Ruckus
Ruckus- Your blog name fits your personality so well. One of the twins, it is interesting how much your little sister is like you. You love sugar! And us having to pay for those 92 cavities is proof. Probably the only kid on the planet that is cool with going to the dentist and getting cavities filled. You don't even flinch when that needle goes in your mouth. I remember when you were a toddler you would get in trouble and I would hold you and in a stern voice say, "Put your head on my shoulder!" because you were in time out. Secretly I LOVED IT. I would smile at Mom after your head was on my shoulder and she would quietly laugh. And those eyes!!! A cartoon app can't even make your face look more animated and cartoon-like (your brother even tried). Speaking of animated your personality/ spirit is just that - ANIMATED!

Totally stole Dad's phone...AWESOME!
Moo - You are a lover of all but so independent. You love your family like nobodies business, but can branch out on your own better than any of your brothers. I think this makes you confident and adaptable to mesh with all the personalities of the family and others. Your oldest brother was a talker and at the time I didn't think anyone would talk more until you started talking. You will talk to anyone and everyone and tell them your life story. I remember when we both had shared ponytails, the bad thing was you were so adorable people thought you were a girl (Lou had the same problem). You are a buddy with my Grandpa (Little Grandpa) which I love because Little Grandpa means so much to me. You seek him out, and him you, when we go to visit. I believe your birth name was specifically picked for you. When coming up with your name I wanted to name you after me, but felt specifically inspired to give you your birth name. Honor your name!

The 3 Amigos
I'll light up your life
"I'm Cute!" is exactly what she is saying - SweetRotten
SweetRotten (former baby) - Yes I totally picked out your blog name. So fitting of you. You are such a sweetie but so rotten at the same time. Total Daddy's girl! Your mom says you have me wrapped around your finger - and she is right. Your mom says you have softened our home and again she is right! You have all of us smitten. You got into Little C's room and destroyed some of his basketball cards. He was really upset but when he found out it was you he couldn't do anything and said, " If it was SweetRotten I understand, but why her...?" (I think he wanted to yell at someone for it). You know how to work the system too. If Mom or Dad don't get you out of bed then you call for Little C to come get you. Total girly but can roll with your older brothers. You love your dolls, dresses, and shoes BUT love a good ball, car, and wrestling. I hope when you get older your bothers will fend off any suitors. I already have plans that all your dates have to run the gauntlet with your brothers and me standing there with bats; if they make it through they can go on a date with you. And Moo or Ruckus isn't allowed to have friends over when they are older because they are too close in age to you.

Need a baby with that bink?
New Baby - (That is what Moo calls you). You have come to a good home. You are already so loved. I wonder what you will be like when you get older. I think you will be as sweet as they come. Your older sister has some sass but I think you will be more laid-back. You are still getting used to this world and working on figuring out your days and night to give your mama some sleep (at nights I am a heavy sleeper and often don't wake up to your cries). The nice thing is your are peaceful during chaos and noise by sleeping right through it. It is when it gets quiet that you wake. With a house of 6 kids a peacemaker is necessary and so far you have fit the bill and feel you will keep that trait.

Daddy does this to all the babies

Seriously you put that picture up?!?! See if I ever let you post on my blog again.
Dogglet - You are an amazing woman! You are a wonderful mother and an inspiration to all of your children AND ME. Your desire and drive to be better, to be good, and to instill that in out children is impressive. Too often people ask me how I do it all with 6 kids. I always say its not me its my wife! So TRUE! Thank you for bringing these babes into the world and for being my wife (or like our discussion last night mother of a really OLD kid). Love you!
